Robert Walter Francis Price was born in Lamorlaye, France on 27th May 1892, son of Robert and Ada Florence PRICE (née HILLS).

1901 census...Aged 8. he was at Brook Street, Soham with his father Robert PRICE [41] a farmer, born Burrough Green, Cambs; his mother Ada F. [41] born Stevenage; sister Dorothy A.M. [5] born Exning; brother Peter [2] born Soham and cousin Kate E.WESTERN [25] born Ladywood, Birmingham.

He was admitted from private education to Soham Grammar School on 22nd April 1901, aged 8 years 10 months, with a CC scholarship until 1904. (source:- http://www.sohamgrammar.org.uk/go-to-admission-register.htm)

1911 census...Aged 18, working on father's farm, he was at Brook House, Soham with his parents, sister Mildred Anne [22] born Lamorlaye, France; sister Dorothy Ada M; brother Peter.

He was most likely the Robert Price, farmer, aged 21 who sailed on the "Mauretania" from Liverpool to New York on 8th November 1913. So far his parents emigration has not been traced. Their address on his Canadian Army papers in 1915 was Mahonia Ridge, Errington, Vancouver B.C.



He enlisted in the Canadian Army (RG - Accession 1992-93/166 box 7979-20) on 1st September 1915. He gave his date of birth as 27th May 1892, at Lamorlaye, France. Next of kin father Robert, at Mahonia Ridge, Errington, Vancouver B.C. He was 5 feet 7.5 inches (171.5 cm) tall, chest 31" to 35.5" (78.7 to 90.2 cm), blue eyes, black hair, Church of England.

The citation for his Military Cross (Edinburgh Gazette 5th February 1919):-
Lt.Robert Walter Francis Price, 54th Bn. Can.Infy.,2nd Cent.Ont.R.
For gallant conduct during the attack on the Drocourt-Queant line, 3rd/4th September 1918. He carried out two daring daylight reconnaissances on the bridges spanning the Canal du Nord. These reconnaissances were made in the face of heavy hostile fir, but by his courage and skill he was enabled to secure information of vital importance as to the situation. He remained at this dangerous task till it was fully accomplished.
